I've been attempting more caricatures in any spare time I can find (which sadly isn't much). I've made three other attempts at caricatures in previous posts on this blog. However, this individual is different from the one tried before.
Whoever can identify this guy wins a warm feeling deep down that they are just a smidgen smarter than other humans.

even more caricatures
I think I'm getting much much closer to capturing the likeness of the guy I'm trying to caricature. The reason I haven't revealed the name is because I want to make absolutely sure that I'm successful. If I hand you a drawing and say "hey, look at this picture of Jack Nicholson that I drew", that gets you thinking about Jack Nicholson and what he looks like. So, I'd have to have done a very sloppy job for you to not recognize him within my scribbles. But, if I just hand you a drawing without saying anything and on first glance you say "Jack Nicholson" then I am finally successful.
So, with that in mind, try and tell me who I have caricatured in the drawing above. That alone will determine if more work is needed. But, like I said before, with the one guy I think I'm getting very very close.

Garson riding on Mushu
Over a year ago, I posted several drawings of the legendary Christopher Garson. There is a Facebook group dedicated to him full of crazy pictures. You can go there just to see how legendary he is. Today, I will post another one of him.

That's a pic of him riding on his chihuahua dog Mushu. Contrary to what you might think, I did not come up with this drawing in my head. He and his dog actually posed for this picture. It took me 15 hours straight thorugh but I got it done. The dog was a good sport too. Her kidneys don't work as well anymore but she's still as feisty as ever.
Git along li'l doggie! YEEHAW!!

I haven't done this in a while
About a year ago this month, I started doing caricatures of people at work. The first of which was posted up here exactly a year and a day ago. My first victim's name was Logan. Soon afterwards, I got a request from someone else at work. Amy absolutely INSISTED that I render her as well. So I did. Then, a short time later, a made a fun little jumble involving two other people at work. Try and solve it if you can.
I came up with a TV show (or possibly a web-toon) idea called Jeff Mullet. His design is based on an indiviual who was at my animation school for a period of time. I'd tell you more but there's no way you'd believe it. Most of us who went to that school still can't believe it ourselves.
Last fall, I did a caricature for a different reason. Basically it was a dishonourable send-off for this piece of cheese. But, soonafter I made a very favourable caricature as a birthday present for someone at work. (It's the one at the bottom)
And now, here's the latest in my year long tradition of caricaturing co-workers. This one is of Scott. Here he is in a typical conversation with his latino boyfriend Justin. (Yes, I said 'boyfriend'. Y'see, Scott "pitches for the other team" so to speak. And so what if he does?) (Also, I should note that I have no idea what Justin looks like, so I just went with a generic Mexican stereotype. I'm hoping this image is close enough)(And, sorry about the folds in the paper. I took these pictures to work so that I could get Scott's approval before posting these pictures.)

Anyway, enjoy the drawings. Hopefully there'll be more to come.

Wedding Gift

A good friend of mine from animation school is getting married. Her name is Tamara Klughart. Scan my links on the side for her name. Then click on it to see all the wonderful artwork on her website. (And leave her a comment, you bums).
She told all of us that her sweetie Rory proposed to her on Christmas Day. As you can guess, she's quite elated about it right now. So, this picture is my gift to the happy couple. I hope this starts their marriage off with a bang.

garsonisa10starhomo
Here are some caricatures of my good friend Chris Garson. He graduated from animation school the same year as me. He didn't finish his student film sadly, but he had some of the best drawings I've ever seen.
I have no idea what he's doing now. Has he made it into the art/animation industry or not? Either way, it would be great if he had a blog full of his own artwork. It should definitely be seen by everyone.
Until that happens, you'll just have to settle for these pictures that I've drawn of him. Toodle OO!!

Two birthday presents
My first birthday present goes out to one Kali Fontecchio who can be found at this blog address: http://kalikazoo.blogspot.com/ I have a feeling she'll enjoy the subject matter of this. ;) Here you go, Kali. Happy Birthday!!

This next one is birthday present for a friend at work, one Andrew Trager. Here I've depicted him saying his favourite catch-phrase. Happy Birthday, Andrew!!

Well, that's done. I hope those two have even better birthdays thanks to these pictures of mine. Y'know I shouldn't have to tell you folks that doing six caricatures in one night.......... it's enough to wear a guy out. Now, after this I have to start on a Christmas comic which is due December 1st. Whew!! My right hand is going to be quite busy for the next little while. And, after I'm done 'that', I'll start drawing. ;P

Jorge

Hey, remember the guy who had all those opinions in that George Bush post I made this past summer? Well, I found a picture of him online and decided to try my hand at caricaturing him. Not only that, I drew him being best buds with his very special friend.

Jude Law revisited
Hey, remember this old drawing of Jude Law I did? I do. Remember how absolutely crappy it was? How it just reaked of incompetance throughout? Worse yet, it didn't even look like Jude. It looked more like Keifer Sutherland and Bart Simpson had a baby together or something.
Back at animation school, we got a visit from one Brain "Inspector Gadget" Lemay. One piece of advice that I remember him giving us is to take a terrible drawing you did in your past and draw it again but try to improve on it. So, that's exactly what I've done with Jude Law here. I know it's way too late to enter Mr. Kricfalusi's Jude Law contest but that doesn't matter. It's all about the continuous learning process that every artist must go through.
So, without further adieu, here's my new Jude Law caricature:

Once again, I also drew his girlfriend.

Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish

The jerk in the center of the picture above just got fired. We all knew him as Chris (and we really didn't want to know any more than that). His termination was imminent for a few reasons:
1. He "conveniently" didn't show up for work after payday. And when he did, it hurt him inside that he couldn't do whatever he did with his money on that day. (Whatever it was, I don't know and I'm too nauseated to care).
2. He came to work completely high once.
3. He was always flirting with the someone else who works there and creeping him right out in the process.
4. He was basically one of the most annoying human beings one could ever meet.
Feel free to comment either on how much you like this drawing or on how much that guy sucks.

Condy and Petey
A follow up to the last post.

This time I drew Condoleezza Rice with Canada's Minister of Foreign "Affairs" Peter McKay.
And here's the happy couple as I drew them. Aint they sweet??!! AAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

Condoleezza Rice

Okay, I think we all know what Ms. Condoleezza Rice looks like. And, I'm sure most of the people out there who know what she looks like also know that she's a lot of fun to draw. Her most striking feature is of course the huge gap in her teeth that can be found most often on crazy broads like Madonna or David Letterman.

But, there's another feature of her hilarious face that I haven't seen too many caricaturists capture. Y'see, whenever she's mad that upper lip goes waaaaaaay down forward almost eclipsing her bottom lip even.

Attention all caricaturists, newspaper or otherwise, we need to see more of this. Condy's lip must be emphasized. No excuses. I want to see a blitzkreig of Condy lips well into 2008 or however much longer her job lasts.
Oh, and if you want to see how I feel about her boss, check out this old post of mine here.
Happy drawing!!

Two Belated Birthdays
I missed two birthdays recently. John Kricfalusi's birthday was on Sepember 9. He turned 51. One of his "partners in crime" Katie Rice had a birthday on September 12. She turned..................... 87 I think. I'll have to check on that. Anyway, I'll chalk this up to better late than never and post them now.
I did something different with their birthday wishes. Here, I present their worst nightmares so that the rest of their days will seem great by comparison no matter what happened to them that day. A rather nice gesture on my part I should say.
First, John K.'s nightmare:

Ren & Stimpy make a guest appearance on South Park!!
Now, Katie's nightmare:

She has to draw guys!!
I hope these pictures brighten their days and make their birthday seasons a merry one.

James Cagney

For years, this man was just a bad impersonation to me. The only thing I associated the name James Cagney with were hammy comedians going "You dirty rat. You killed my brother." all the time. I knew he was an actor and a legend and all that but his name never really did much for me.
But, then I purchased a Warner Bros. gangsters DVD box set, many of which star Cagney. Now I know why this man became a legend and pretty much set the standard for gangster films ever since. Wow! That man could act. His level of intensity that he brought to each one of his performances is nothing short of breath-taking. He practically leaps off the screen and slugs you one right in the kisser, he's so dynamic. And yet, he quite often manages to pull off another neat trick at the same time. You're always rooting for him. Even when he plays the most despicable, the most sleazy, or even the most downright evil character ever, you still want him to win in the end and even feel a bit sad when his gangster character is gunned down after years of corruption.
Live action actors and definitely animators can learn alot from studying this man and his work. If you can capture even 1/5th of his intensity, you're doing great. My first attempt at drawing him and his various emotions is below. Some of the pictures are better than others of course, but I think I'm on my way to learning what makes him tick and how to apply that to my other work.

Tell me what you think either about these drawings or about Cagney himself.

Jeff Mullet

Here's another TV show idea I have. It's about this guy named Jeff Mullet. Basically, he thinks he can do everything when in actual fact he can do nothing. He'll walk around this great big world of ours. Once an episode, he'll see a job that needs doing and instantly think that he's the ideal man for that job. He'll then fake his way into the area, assume the duties, screw them up completely, and then get run out of town or wherever it all takes place.
By the way, everyone who went to animation school with me knows EXACTLY who this guy is patterned after. ;)

King-Sized Kyle

The above graphic is a picture of Kyle Marshall that I have drawn. I've seen some pictures of him on various blogs portraying him as a huge fat guy. However, when I last saw him back in animation school a few years ago he was just a little shrimp. Oh well, if he's put on some weight by now, I can go along with that. (Keep in mind I haven't seen this guy in person or even a photograph of him in like 3 years. I'm not 100% certain I drew him accurately. I just scribbled down what I remember. Those big frizzy things on his face are his eyebrows by the way. Or should I say his 'unibrow'?)
For those who don't know, Kyle and I have had many many arguements on the internet. Some were minor squabbles that got resolved quickly and some that were drag-'em-out verbal brawls that went on for posts and posts with absolutely no resolution. But, y'know, of all the people I've tangled with online, he's been the only one who has actually backed his statements up with something. Like a competant lawyer, he presents the arguement as well as the proof. Everyone should take this lesson from Kyle. You can shut someone up much faster with a well presented fact than you can just by saying "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP......." constantly. I live by that, and so should you.
Anyway, if you know Kyle, leave a comment. I'd like to know if I 'captured' him or not.

Kipp's New Baby
One of my friends from animation school, namely Kipp Schell, just had a blessed event recently. His finacee gave birth to a boy they named Flynn William Schell. He posted pictures on his blog right here. Seen below is my present to the new family. A drawn picture of the proud papa with his equally as proud son.
Oh, and while you're over at his blog checking out the baby photos, take a look at some of his artwork as well. Attention all prestigious animation studios reading this: Kipp is a talented artist. Hire him immediately. (And, while you're at it, hire me too.)
