Anyone who has visited John K.'s blog knows that he is not too fond of Friz Freleng's work at all. If Mr. K. did indeed conduct an interview with Mr. Freleng I imagine that it would look something like this:
(That's Eddie Fitzgerald laughing on the left by the way along with Friz in the middle and of course John on the right). Those of you reading this who don't know who Friz Freleng is, "google" him immediately after visiting my blog. You won't be disappointed. Everyone else, feel free to express an opinion of either Friz Freleng, John K. or Eddie Fitzgerald in the comments section.
That Ren looks like if John Dilworth drew him.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that John thinks Freleng is not all that great when compared to Clampett and Chuck Jones, but I bet he would agree to the statement that he was still miles away from most current cartoons.
ReplyDeleteHi, David.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of your sister's friends that drops by to visit your blog. I'm sure you're already aware of it, but I wanted to mention http://www.animationarchive.org/ just in case you hadn't checked it out. :)
Hey Dave, I can't seem to post the information needed to update links. Blogger's being a pain in the butt so I'll post it on the SOS forum.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps and good luck with your site.
Actually, don't worry about it. I figured it out myself (as you can see on the left).

ReplyDeleteJohn just thinks Friz is a lame director. He's wrong, but there you go. I don't think he'd consider him "good" next to the current cartoon directors he dislikes...he just plain doesn't like his stuff. At ALL.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with JK is that when he expresses an opinion, it's not really open to debate. As far as he's concerned, he's thought it all out and it's a black & white deal on most artistic matters. He usually doesn't say: this is my opinion, take it for what it's worth, he says: THIS IS FACT. That's just his style of discourse.
LOL! OK., I've gotta print this out!
ReplyDeleteEddie Fitzgerald
hi there,
ReplyDeletecool stuff! i luv john k and eddie. but i must confess i think old friz was cool too. sure he wasn't was good as clampett but he still made some tremendous cartoons i.e. "a waggily tale", "birds anonymous", "hyde and tweet", "stork naked", "high diving hare", to name but five. cheers.
Actually john k likes friz freleng's cartoons.Just that it isn't as good as say "Bob Clampett" or "Chuck Jones" to him.He says that the style is like a middle aged grumpy man artstyle and he likes Clampett better becuase he draws his characters cute.
ReplyDeleteWow! Really? I had heard that over at Spumco people were encouraged to put up pictures from Looney Tunes but anything from a Friz Freleng cartoon was ordered to be taken down. Also, in the dvd commentary for Gruesome Twosome, John called Friz a boring director.
DeleteMaybe John's opinion of Friz has mellowed out in recent years when compared to so much of the crap that's come out. Who knows?
